Equatorise Advisory Broadens IISMA Students’ Horizons Through Industry Visits in the UK

London, November 1, 2024 – In collaboration with the University of Nottingham in the UK, Equatorise Advisory hosted the “Global Industry Insight Day” event in London, inviting participants from the Indonesian Ministry of Education’s program, the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA). The IISMA program is an Indonesian government scholarship initiative designed to provide Indonesian students with opportunities to participate in mobility programs at world-renowned universities.

This event aimed to enhance industrial insights for 28 Indonesian students from Nottingham by connecting them with various multinational companies and industry leaders in the UK. Through a series of visits to sectors such as sustainable energy, metal trading, and finance, students gained an understanding of global dynamics and innovative industrial practices while being inspired.

Diverse Program Agenda

The event began with a visit to Bloomberg’s European headquarters, where students were introduced to BloombergNEF and given a tour of the office. This was followed by a visit to the London Metal Exchange (LME), where they discussed Indonesia’s nickel opportunities and observed the iconic LME trading floor in action. The students then enjoyed lunch at Spitalfields Market before heading to The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) to learn about ICAEW’s history and presence in Southeast Asia, along with career opportunities.

In the afternoon, participants took a scenic cruise along the River Thames, offering a fresh perspective on the city of London. The day concluded with a networking session at the National Liberal Club, attended by Dr. Bagus Muljadi, an Indonesian academic and Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham, and Steven Marcelino, an Indonesian diaspora member and CEO/Managing Partner of Equatorise Advisory. The session provided students with an opportunity to expand their professional networks in an exclusive setting in the heart of Westminster.

“This Global Industry Insight Day reflects our commitment to supporting the development of young Indonesian talent by providing direct exposure to global industry practices. We hope this experience serves as a stepping stone for these students to build their careers and positively impact Indonesia upon their return,” said Steven Marcelino, CEO and Managing Partner of Equatorise Advisory.

One of the participating IISMA students, Lucky Zeisya, expressed enthusiasm about the event: “An extraordinary experience during the industry visit in London with such insightful agendas. Although I come from an engineering background, this visit greatly expanded my perspective on how major companies in London, especially in finance, trade, and sustainability sectors, operate. Thank you to Equatorise for organizing this event.”
