Jakarta, 21 June 2025 — On the sidelines of the Jakarta E-Prix 2025, over 120 senior business leaders, investors, and policymakers convened at the “Change Accelerated Live” forum on 20 June 2025 at the Emotion Club, Jakarta International Circuit. Co-hosted by Formula E, the Jakarta Provincial Government, and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia), in collaboration with the ASEAN Alliance on Carbon Markets (AACM) and Equatorise, the forum served as a timely platform to spotlight Indonesia’s rapidly growing leadership in energy security, electric vehicle (EV) ecosystems, critical minerals, and carbon market.
This strategic convening featured two high-level panel discussions: the first focused on downstreaming critical minerals to drive EV ecosystem competitiveness, and the second on scaling carbon markets to unlock green growth and finance high-integrity climate action. The event’s structure reflected Indonesia’s dual advantage in both industrial decarbonization and natural climate solutions. With the world’s largest nickel reserves, vast renewable energy potential, and more than 94 million hectares of rainforests and 3.3 million hectares of mangroves, Indonesia stands at the nexus of innovation, industry, and environmental stewardship.
Opening the event, Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, emphasized the unique role Indonesia plays in linking electric mobility with climate ambition.
“Indonesia continues to demonstrate that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand. What we’ve seen here in Jakarta is a powerful example of how a nation can use global platforms like Formula E not just to entertain, but to catalyze change. Through our presence and partnerships here, we are spotlighting solutions and technologies that move the needle on climate action, making the race track a runway for global impact.”
Following the opening, Steven Marcelino, CEO of Equatorise, underlined the significance of the forum as a signal of intent.
“What we witnessed today was not a ceremonial event, but a strategic convergence. Government, business, and changemakers came together to unlock Indonesia’s green growth opportunity, whether through EV value chains, renewable energy, or carbon markets. The world is watching, and Indonesia is not just keeping up; it’s choosing to lead.”
Delivering the keynote address, H.E. Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, Energy and Environment of the Republic of Indonesia, framed Indonesia’s climate priorities as central to its long-term development trajectory.
“Indonesia is blessed with vast natural resources and extraordinary environmental assets, but we are fully aware that these must be stewarded wisely. We see climate action not as a constraint, but as a growth engine, an opportunity to create jobs, strengthen competitiveness, and deliver prosperity without compromising sustainability. This is our path forward: a green economy rooted in equity, resilience, and international cooperation.”
The Provincial Government of Jakarta emphasized the capital city’s commitment to driving urban decarbonization and resilience through local leadership and international collaboration.
“Jakarta is advancing climate action from the ground up. From decarbonizing transport to leveraging climate finance, we are committed to policies that reflect urgency and vision. Today’s event reinforces our belief that local leadership can contribute meaningfully to global climate goals, especially when backed by strong partnerships,” said Afan Adriansyah Idris, Assistant Secretary for Development and Environment.
Highlighting the business sector’s readiness to respond to climate and economic shifts, Bernardino Vega, Vice Chairman for International Relations at Kadin Indonesia, stated:
“We believe this is a decisive moment for Indonesia’s economy. The shift toward sustainability is not optional, it’s inevitable. What we saw today is that the private sector is no longer waiting on the sidelines. We are ready to collaborate, co-invest, and scale solutions that are future-proof and globally competitive.”
The first panel, “Downstreaming Critical Minerals to Accelerate Growth in the EV Ecosystem Global Race”, featured Frederic Bertrand, CEO and Team Principal of Mahindra Racing; Dany Amrul Ichdan, Vice CEO of MIND ID; and Daud Joseph, Director of Operations and Safety at Transjakarta. Moderated by Angela Lois Iskandar, Southeast Asia Relationship Manager at BloombergNEF, the panel explored Indonesia’s strategic role as a clean manufacturing base, its potential to move up the value chain through mineral processing, and the intersection between EV development and public mobility. Panelists called for stronger integration of the EV ecosystem with Indonesia’s industrial roadmap and the need to ensure long-term supply chain resilience.
The second panel, “Scaling Up Carbon Markets to Mobilise Climate Finance”, brought together Natalia Rialucky Marsudi, Founder and CEO of Fairatmos and Deputy for Intra-ASEAN Affairs at AACM; Filipe Blackwood Oliveria, Senior Executive Advisor to the CEO at Sustainable Energy for All and Senior Advisor at TPG and TPG Rise Climate; and Bimo Soewadji, CEO of Carbon Ethics. Moderated by Catherine Soper, Head of Government Engagement at BeZero Carbon, the panel emphasized the role of voluntary and compliance carbon markets in financing Southeast Asia’s nature-based solutions, while stressing the importance of high-integrity frameworks to maintain investor trust and environmental credibility.
Closing the forum, Alberto Longo, Co-Founder and Chief Championship Officer of Formula E, highlighted Jakarta’s rising global profile.
“Jakarta has proven once again that it is more than a race host, it is a climate innovation hub. The energy, ambition, and partnerships forged today signal that Indonesia is not just part of the conversation, it is helping set the direction for global sustainability and electric mobility.”
The forum concluded with a networking cocktail reception and pit lane walk with Formula E racing teams. As the city prepared for the Jakarta E-Prix 2025 the following day, the energy from Change Accelerated Live carried forward a resonant message: Indonesia is no longer waiting to be led, it is helping shape the future of global green growth.
